Our Budgie...

I'm sorry but I can't for the life of me bring myself to put a photo with this story...you will just have to use your imagination! Tom and I have been concerned about our budgie, Caboose for the past couple of weeks. Caboose's beak around the nostrils has changed from a nice pale smooth beak to kind of rough looking and reddy brown. Also caboose has been frantically rubbing his bottom on the side of the cage...to the point where I feared he was going to start loosing feathers! Oh my, what does he have...mites...worms....both? So like the dutiful parent I am, we went for a trip to an avian vet. Now avian vets are very few and far between, so I had to brave peek hour traffic to trek all the way to Springvale...it took 1hr and 10 mins! Anyway I was 20mins late and therefore had to wait another 20mins for the kind vet to be ready. So now for the shocking diagnosis...Firstly HE is a SHE, and this is why the beak is changing colour. It's a bit rough due to some slight dehydration. I apparently have to get Caboose to eat a more varied diet. Now parents out there if you think it is hard getting your kids to eat things like broccoli, baby spinach and sprouts, you should try and get a friggin budgie to eat it! Also female budgies are more "bitey" than males and as the Vet was inspecting our lovely little girl, there was a cry of "OOH you little bitch". Now to tackle the the bottom problem...Oh my god...dear lord...please no, were just a couple of phrases that escaped my mouth as the Vet explained. Caboose is reaching maturity and it is common for a budgie to find pleasure by rubbing themselves against....things. Yes, our budgie makes me blush. So all in all it took a total of 2 hrs and 30 mins and $50 to find out that our Caboose is a sexually deviant female who should eat more vegies. Oh good lord...may I never have to explain this to my Grandma!

Honeymoon

Well the Honeymoon sailing The Whitsunday’s was fabulous. I will post a few photos here but if you want some more stories check out Tom’s blog http://www.thomasr.org/blog the stories are a laugh.

Tom insisted on having the sails up wherever possible. I hated the sails as this meant Tom yelling at me: “Quickly, go north, bare away” I mean where the hell is that…left or right? Or other things like “for god sake pull the sheet, pull the sheet, man the halliards”. To me, a sheet sounds like it should be a sail- but no…it’s a bloody rope! And despite ending each demand with “please honey”, it didn’t mean that it was said in a particularly loving way!!

One story I am sure that Tom will not tell is of a fantastic, brave and speedy little butterfly, which made me laugh until I cried. Tom, being determined to ‘sail’ and not ‘motor’, had both sails up while heading to Hamilton Island- in a hurry so that he could make his radio gig via mobile. So slick and fast were we going that I looked over Tom’s shoulder and saw a butterfly catching us. Not only did the little beauty catch us, but also proceeded to overtake us, cut across our bows and fly out of sight! Like I said; laughed until I cried. Tom did keep insisting that we could catch him, but the butterfly was already home for a cuppa.

This is what happiness looks like...

Our 32ft yatch...with a storm brewing around us.

Tom managed to catch a fish and is obviously proud of his achievment, however he dropped it off the back of the boat while he was cleaning it!

Valentines Day on Hamilton Island...I'm very excited about the pool.

Beautiful sunsets every night...

2006/2007

Well , I'm afraid to report that it has been a sad end/start to 2006/2007 for my family. On the 22nd of December we suddenly lost my Uncle Stephen at the age of 57. He was always active and organising. I remember on more than one visit, Uncle Steve organising Megan, Caryn and I to clean the skirting boards! His funeral service celebrated his passion for soccer, his dedication to community and the love of his family.

My lovely Nana passed away on the 15th of January and, as with Uncle Steve, will be greatly missed. My fondest memories of Nana are holidaying with her and Pa at Narabeen Caravan Park. Their caravan holidays were always full of laughter, BBQ's, lollies, swims, and chicken dances!
